Ingredients

  • 1 can 15 oz chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or spray oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: Additional seasonings such as cayenne pepper cumin, or dried herbs (e.g., oregano, thyme)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chickpeas:
  • Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly. Pat them dry with a kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture. The drier the chickpeas, the crispier they’ll become.
  • Season the Chickpeas:
  • In a mixing bowl, toss the chickpeas with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and any optional spices you choose. Make sure the chickpeas are evenly coated with the seasonings.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer:
  • Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Cook the Chickpeas:
  • Transfer the seasoned chickpeas to the air fryer basket. Arrange them in a single layer to ensure even cooking. Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes for even crisping.
  • Check for Crispiness:
  • After the cooking time, check for desired crispiness. If you prefer extra crunch, continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Cool and Serve:
  • Once the chickpeas are crispy and golden brown, remove them from the air fryer. Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them as a snack, or use them as a topping for salads or bowls.

Notes

  • Dry Chickpeas Well: Ensure the chickpeas are completely dry before seasoning and cooking for the best crispiness.
  • Seasoning Variations: Feel free to experiment with different seasonings such as lemon zest, parmesan, or curry powder for varied flavor profiles.
  • Storage: Store any leftover chickpeas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. To re-crisp, simply pop them back in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Batch Cooking: If you’re cooking a large amount of chickpeas, it’s best to cook in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.
