Ingredients

  • 8 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or cooking spray

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cheese Sticks: Unwrap the mozzarella string cheese sticks and cut each one in half, so you have 16 pieces.
  • Set Up the Breading Stations: In three separate bowls:
  • In the first, add the flour.
  • In the second, whisk the eggs.
  • In the third, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Bread the Mozzarella Sticks: Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, making sure to coat it completely. Then dip it into the egg wash, followed by the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs gently to ensure they stick well.
  • Freeze: Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them apart. Freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  • Air Fry the Mozzarella Sticks: Lightly brush the mozzarella sticks with olive oil or spray them with cooking spray. Place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry at 390°F for 5-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve: Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing: Make sure to freeze the breaded mozzarella sticks before air frying to avoid cheese leakage.
  • Extra Crispy: For extra crispy mozzarella sticks, dip them one more time in the egg wash and panko breadcrumbs.
